Are smells part of the experience too? April 27, 2008

A few weeks ago, it was pointed out that I made the profound observation that you know you are in a nice building when your heels click when you walk around.  Are these seemingly ‘ordinary’ sounds part of the brand a company or building offers?

A couple days I was walking to lunch with a couple people and we cut through Nordstrom’s.  One of the women said, “It is really odd that every single Nordstrom’s I have ever been in smells the same.”

Is that part of the brand as well?

Department stores do have a smell….But so does the DI (Deseret Industries – similar to a Salvation Army/Goodwill Store for those of you who haven’t lived in Utah).  If that is the smell they are going for, I would wager to say that they have chosen the wrong one.
