Are Grades a Predictor of Success? November 18, 2008

report-cardFreakonomics recently had a post about grades predicting success.  I thought this blog post was interesting, so I’m passing it along.

Through my life, I have been through ups and downs with grades and test taking abilities.  So, I am admittedly biased and I tend to agree that those with the best grades are not necessarily the smartest of the bunch.  Some are actually smart but others struggle to get good grades or are just good test takers.

A lot of the people I know who had the best grades struggle to think outside the proverbial box….if they can regurgitate information, everything comes easy to them but as soon as they need to be creative, it is not so easy anymore.

This isn’t to say that this holds true for everyone but the trends seem to lean that way.
