Business Meetings March 26, 2009

I hate meetings.  Generally they take about seven times longer than they should and even then, it doesn’t seem like anything gets accomplished.  Today Seth Godin posted about meetings and the rules.  It’s rare, but today I agree with him 100%.

It seems like it would be so easy to make meetings more efficient uses of time and it’s so easy to talk about making them more efficient but it never seems to actually happen.  Really it comes down to trying to efficiently talk about how you’re going to efficiently talk about what you are going to do.  I still stand by this: stop talking about what you are going to do and do it.  If people spent half the time doing the work that they spend talking about doing the work, the workplace would be so much more productive and those that have to do work would be much happier as they wouldn’t be stretched all the time between talking and doing.
