I was introduced to Blip.fm today….A great thing and a horrible thing (because it has already sucked more than an hour of my time this afternoon and I’ve hardly done anything with it)….I love it.  All the music I could think of is on there.  I have such eclectic tastes and this accomodates all of them.  I tested it out in a few genres and everything I wanted was available.  You can check out my site: blip.fm/mkf and listen to what i’m listening to (that is if you can handle the completely illogical variety.)

I Never Thought I Would Like Guitar Hero…. January 13, 2009

I started playing Guitar Hero a few months ago and have consequently really started to like it.  I’m not sure why I thought I wouldn’t like it since I do like music and I do like the occasional video game.  Possibly that the first couple times I tried it, I was nothing short of horrible.  I’m not an expert rocker yet but I can rock the medium (at least that’s what the game tells me) and there are a couple songs that I can hit 100%.

Is it like the real guitar?  Not at all.  Do I think I could come close to learning the guitar?  Not at all.  I’ll be the first to admit that I am just not musically inclined.  I can’t sing.  I can’t play a single instrument….unless you could “Fur Elise” on the piano – but only the right hand side from memory.  I can’t read music….unless I go throug FACE for the spaces and Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge for the lines very slowly.

Some people are using Guitar Hero and Rock Band as the inspiration to move into the real thing.  Check out this interview in the Freakonomics Blog with the guy who started it all.

I personally know that P. Fisher started playing the real guitar after Guitar Hero pushed him to give it a serious try.  So maybe he’s right and there are other people out there that are crossing from gaming to music??

Hangin' Tough

Hangin' Tough

Listen up everybody if you wanna take a chance.  Just get on the floor and do the New Kids dance….There’s just so much that i want to say. That when i look at you all my thoughts get in the way…..Ooo, It’s so crazy, he’s like Baby, I’m like Swayze. I said, Ooo, and I’m burning up So, lets turn it up, I said turn it up now….Well, I guess, it’s a brand new day after all. Every time we hear the curtain call, see the girls with the curls in the hair, the buttons and the pins and the loud fanfares. Tonight. Tonight.

These are just some of the few lyrics that are still running through my head in the never ending excitement provided by my favorite boy band….

I'll Be Loving You Forever

I'll Be Loving You Forever

Last night was the New Kids on the Block conert.  First let me just say that it was everything I was hoping it would be for the last twenty years.

Lori & I

It was a lot of fun.  I dressed up in neon and puffy painted tshirts.  Saw my favorite boys from Boston.  Sang and danced to some old songs and sang some new songs.  All in all it was a good time.

The one thing that has changed - They take clothes off now

One thing has changed - They take clothes off now

One thing I noticed is that nothing has changed.  It was the same screaming crowd, watching the same guys, having just as much fun as they would have twenty years ago.  I have been to a lot of concerts throughout my life and I would go out on a limb and say that this was one of my all-time favorites.  (I know I’m going to be made fun of for saying that)  They played the old songs, the songs from when they went their solo ways, and a few of the more popular new songs.  It was a good mix, sing-a-long the entire way, and all-around good fun.

And for the record, Lori will say that Joey was singing to her all night.  But he was definitely singing to me.

NKOTB a long time ago

NKOTB a long time ago

I am so excited!  The New Kids on The Block concert is Saturday night!

If I would have been allowed to go see them when I wanted to almost twenty years ago, I probably wouldn’t be quite so excited.  But I wasn’t, so I am.  They have changed quite a bit in the last years but I’m sure it will be just as good as I imagine…..

They have a new CD out now and I have to admit that I didn’t love it when I first heard it.  (I was expecting more of ‘The Right Stuff’ and that wasn’t there.)  It has grown on me quite a bit over the past few weeks and I am now prepared if they decide to sing a new song instead of just old songs that I want to hear.

NKOTB these days

NKOTB these days

I will be sure to let you know how it is because I’m sure that I will be excited for days to come.  I just need to decide what to wear.  I now wish my mom wouldn’t have gotten rid of my old NKOTB tshirt.  Now is the only time I will ever be able to wear it again and not be made fun of by everyone I know.

Our State Fair is a Great State Fair….Don’t Miss it…Don’t Even Be Late September 9, 2008

Chris Cagle

…..It’s dollars to donuts at our state fair.  It’s the best state fair in our state.

I love the musical “State Fair.” That is completely irrelevant to the rest of this post but I thought I’d mention it.  Particularly for S & D who I know appreciate a good musical.

I went to the Utah State Fair last night to see Chris Cagle.  It was very good.  I really enjoy concerts.  Especially country shows.  The entire genre impresses me because when you like someone on a CD or the radio, you know you will enjoy them live.  What you hear recorded, is generally what you hear live.  There are a few exceptions.  But for the most part they are pretty straightforward.  I’m sure you have all been to a show where you are disappointed because the sound is not what you thought it would be.

My top 5 (Good shows and also good artists)

  1. Counting Crows
  2. Live
  3. Rusted Root
  4. Elton John/Billy Joel
  5. Guster

My worst 5 (I just expected so much more)

  1. Ben Folds Five (They just sounded really bad)
  2. Eric Clapton (Though there was no fault of his – it was the venue 100%)
  3. Journey (The new guy is no Steve Perry – and no one wants to hear the new stuff…stick to the hits)
  4. Nickelback (Just wasn’t a fan to begin with and was taken under duress)
  5. Red Hot Chili Peppers (I’ve heard they are normally good – I just saw them when they were too cold to move let alone sing and play instruments)
