I’ve been thinking a lot about this. (And I have to attribute today’s topic to my mother. I’m posting it now because she hasn’t done it despite saying she was going to a couple weeks ago.) Someone sent me an awful forward the other day. Islamic protesters with the comment: “Look what our ‘change’ candidate is associated with.” I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. First off because it is a complete misrepresentation of the situation from TWO years ago. Secondly because our ‘change’ candidate isn’t Islamic. Obama is from Kansas after all!
This is not the first of these completely asinine forwards I have gotten this political season. They never seem to stop coming. But what surprises me the most is that they are all ultra conservative from people who know that I am the furthest thing from ultra conservative. I don’t send pro-liberal propaganda to those that I know won’t like it. In fact, I don’t often pass any of this stuff along. I don’t even pass jokes along unless I know the particular people (and I’m very selective with the particular people I choose to send things to) will think it is funny. i.e., my mom and sisters like kittens. If I get a forward with cute, fuzzy kittens, I pass it along to my mom and sisters. I don’t pass it along to the dog lovers of the world. I don’t even send it to my dad because he doesn’t care about the kittens.
Back to the real point. Some of these forwarded emails are outright offensive and the people who I thought knew me best, keep sending them along to me regardless of the fact that it is completely disregarding my own personal politics and beliefs. Why is it that they are so inconsiderate of my views? Why are they trying to impose their views on me? Are mine not good enough? Obviously not, or they wouldn’t be trying to convert me.
So to those of you out there who feel like you need to share your offensive messages with me, please stop. If you want to read what I’m thinking about, check in with me here. Occasionally I have something of substance to say. Generally I don’t but, sometimes I try to make it worth reading.
