Snowy Day in Pittsburgh January 14, 2009

The difference between Salt Lake and Pittsburgh….When it snows in Utah, the snow is removed before you know it.  Especially at the airport.  Everything is de-iced and ready to keep going no matter how big the snowstorm is.  In Pittsburgh, even with an inch of snow, you would think that it was a blizzard.  This is what the airport looks like after a ‘big’ storm: img_1117

Sometimes, like today, when it is 50 degrees outside in the middle of December, I really miss being at school. I say that now and I got a taste of how cold it is when I was in Chicago a couple weeks ago so you’d think I would remember how much I hated walking to class in the blistering, bone-chilling cold but, I don’t really hate it. It’s a good winter. The kind you can sit inside and read or watch a movie in.  It is definitely good weather for the upcoming holidays so hopefully we’ll see more snow soon!

I HATE Packing October 12, 2008

Packing may be my least favorite chore of all time.  I don’t know why I hate it so much because that means I’m going somewhere.  For whatever reason, I hate it.  I can’t figure out what to bring with me.  Two weeks in what could be cool and rainy or warm and sunny.  And I can’t seem to get past the snow here.  Overnight I think we got four inches of snow on my deck.  I keep picking up warm clothes and realizing that I probably won’t need them.

A few random thoughts:

I’m leaving for Germany tomorrow!!

It is October and we have way too much snow already.  Especially when last winter it snowed until mid-June and this winter started on Labor Day.

The library has free movie and book on tape rentals.  And they have new stuff.  I think I’m going to quit with Blockbuster forever now.

One more day of work – and really only a half day.

I’m going to miss UTC Hall of Fame this year.  And that’s Ok because now I don’t have to buy another formal dress.

I’m also going to miss Trustworks this year and I am a little disappointed about that.

That’s all for now.  I need to get back to working my way through packing and laundry.  Hopefully once I really get going things will move a little faster.  I’m making creamy-apple-chicken chili tonight.  A new recipe….courtesy of my favorite, Rachael Ray.

Seasons of Park City September 30, 2008

As winter approaches, I am a little bit sad that the fall isn’t longer here in Park City.

When we first moved here, I remember being so excited for Utah winters (For the record, Utah winters are still better than the bitterly cold, bone chilling Indiana winters) but, they are just too long here.  This year, it snowed well into June.  Then we skip right over spring for a hot summer and then we were back to snow again over Labor Day weekend.  Thankfully it melted and we went on with our summer as it should be.

I’ve been here for nine and a half years now and fall has become my favorite season.  I like the brisk air, sweater weather, the smell, and most of all the leaves.  The leaves started changing colors a couple weeks ago and are ready to fall any day now.  I love the fall here.  The mountains look like they are on fire when the leaves change color. Not the best picture but you’ll have to take my word for it.
